Concerning Concerns: Using the Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI)

The Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI) by Leslie Morey, PhD is meant to screen or assess psychopathological syndromes and provides information useful in screening for psychopathology, clinical diagnosis, and treatment planning. This seminar-workshop delves into the framework and purposes of its development, the areas it measures, and its utility in the Philippine setting.  Methods of test administration and scoring are quickly explained as well. Participants are then engaged in a critical discussion of analyzing and interpreting PAI results using an exemplar, and proceeds to a workshop of writing vignettes of psychological reports incorporating results of the test to describe the person.  Participants are involved in the respectful critique of the written vignettes, highlighting the good practices and areas of improvement of these works. The workshop then ends with an open forum.

At the end of this 4-hour seminar-workshop, the participants would be able to:

  1. Explain the theoretical framework of the PAI and its clinical utility in screening, diagnosis, and treatment planning;

  2. Identify the 22 non-overlapping scales (Validity, Clinical, Treatment, and Interpersonal) and their relevance to the local clinical population; .

  3. Interpret PAI profiles using a systematic approach to identify primary psychopathological syndromes;

  4. Write and critique psychological report vignettes that integrate PAI findings to create a holistic picture of a client;

  5. Evaluate psychological report writing through a respectful peer-critique process, identifying best practices for professional communication
